Transgender Day of Remembrance 2023
The National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE) reports that 109 transgender Americans have passed in the United States since November of 2022. Of those, it's likely that more than 53 transgender Americans were lost due to violence. The remaining 33 were due to suicide.
The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) reports that 26 Americans were lost to violence over the past year.
Regardless of the number of reported deaths, we know that these numbers do not show the whole picture. many go unreported because they were incorrectly identified by police, family, etc. for a number of reasons.
